Running a backup from Endpoint Cloud
When you have activated devices in Endpoint Cloud, their business data is protected automatically:
- Approximately 10 minutes after the initial activation
- Regularly, according to the backup schedule (which is defined in the Policy).
You can also back up a device manually, either in Endpoint Cloud or by using the Protection Agent locally on the device. This is useful if you need a device to be backed up immediately, and the next scheduled backup is not due for some time.
Below, we explain the various ways you can run a remote backup in Endpoint Cloud:
Run a Remote Backup from the Protection Page
Run a Remote Backup from the Device Page
To find out about running a backup locally, see Back Up a Device Manually.
If the Backup Now option is unavailable, it means the Protection Agent is offline. This is usually because a user has not logged on to the device or the Protection Agent has not started up.
Run a Remote Backup from the Protection Page
To run a remote backup from Endpoint Cloud's Protection page:
- Click Protection.
- In the devices list, click on the device you want to back up. Its details appear in a side-panel.
- Click the Backup Now icon at the bottom of the panel.
A toaster message appears at the bottom of the screen to inform you that the backup request was successful.
The Protection Agent software (on the user device) uses deduplication to make sure that only new or changed data is backed up to the vault. The amount of time it takes to back up a device will vary, depending on the amount of data that has to be indexed and backed up.
- In the side panel, click the link next to the Last Backup entry to display a summary of the backup.
- For more in-depth information about the backup, click View Details. You can then view details of the backup, the device, any files that could not be backed up, and the log data.
Run a Remote Backup from the Device Profile Page
To run a backup from the device profile page:
- The first step is to access the devices list on either the Inventory page or the Protection page.
Click Inventory.
Or:
Click Protection.
- In the list, click on the device that you want to back up. A side-panel appears, showing information about the device you selected.
- Click on the Details icon in the top corner of the side panel to display the Device profile page.
- On the device profile page, click the Backup Now icon.
- When the backup has taken place, click on the link in the Last Backup entry on the Details tab of the Device profile page. Endpoint Cloud displays a summary of the backup.
- For more in-depth information about the backup, click View Details. You can then view details of the backup, the device, any files that could not be backed up, and the log data.
